Chocolate Banana Shake

Here's a fun treat that will solve any sweet tooth craving!

Only add the almonds if you have a high powered blender. If you don't have Agave, you can substitute honey. Makes 4 large servings. MMmm... So YUMMY!

Valentines to Troops!

Last Wednesday, our Relief Society took on an Operation Support Our Troops, Inc. project to send Valentine packages to servicemen and women deployed in Afghanistan. With the help of our sisters (and the young women later in the day), packages containing stationary and valentine candy will reach over 600 by Valentines Day. What a sweet way to serve! Thanks to everyone involved!

Healthy Eating in 2011

January is a season of New Year's Resolutions. Some goals that reach the top each year include spending more time with family and friends, exercising, and losing weight or dieting. Have you made your list? Maybe dieting or making a change to eat healthy is on your list. The best diet, I believe, is one that can be maintained, and the healthiest approach is through whole foods. It includes lots of vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains, while minimizing trans and saturated fats and sugars. This type of diet aids weight loss, increases metabolism, provides energy, promotes health, and will make you look and feel great!

It may take a little bit of effort at first (everything worthwhile does), but then it becomes easier. It is something that can be incorporated into your lifestyle as a healthy change.

My challenge to you is to make whole foods your goal. Substitute wheat for white flour. Take a veggie or fruit tray in place of sugary snacks. Try meatless Mondays or go lean. Use the Word of Wisdom as your guide and reach your health goals in 2011!

Yesterday's Lesson

Shauna Leavitt taught us from Elder Hales’ and Elder Cook’s talks from the last General Conference.

Elder Hales said, “Whenever we choose to come unto Christ, take His name upon us, and follow His servants, we progress along the path to eternal life.”

Elder Cook said, “If we do not black out evil from our homes and lives, do not be surprised if devastating moral explosions shatter the peace which is the reward for righteous living. Our responsibility is to be in the world but not of the world.” He went on to promise us, “If we make of our homes holy places that shelter us from evil, we will be protected from the adverse consequences that the scriptures have foretold.”

Baptism

Jean M. taught us today about baptism.

In Mosiah 18: 7 – 11, Alma establishes the covenant of baptism among the Nephites.  The promises they make are the same as the promises we have made to “come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, [being] willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, … as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments…”

Just like the day we were baptized and made these covenants, we have the opportunity to partake of the sacrament each week to renew those same covenants.  Today is a new beginning!

Jean left us with some thought-provoking questions.  Knowing that today is a new beginning:
1.      What does that mean to you?
2.      How does that translate into changed behavior?
3.      What can you do to better keep your part of the covenant?

Fancy Nancy on a Budget

I found this tutorial online to make a tutu (no sewing involved). http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2009/01/want-to-make-your-own.htmlI bought 3 yards of tulle for $1.50/yd and used some elastic I had at home. For less than $5, I have a darling tutu!

Thought I'd pass it on, in case someone wanted to make one for a gift! I'm thinking "party favors"!
